Adagio means “at ease” and indicates a slow pace. This page starts at ♩ = 72 in 4/4. About 66–76 BPM is a rough practice guide; the appropriate tempo also depends on the piece, its character and the note value receiving the beat.
Try a phrase with long notes or rests. Count right through to the next entry, rather than stopping your count when you stop playing. If the eighth-note positions are hard to place, set Clicks per beat to 2 and leave Swing at Straight.
After a few repetitions, return to one click per beat and check the same entry. You can also play the phrase without the metronome, then use the click again to check any passage where you were unsure of the timing.
