One tempo at a time

The web metronome holds one tempo. Gradus: Metronome for iPhone climbs through a sequence of tempos on its own: set the steps, and the click moves for you.

It is not on the App Store yet.

Andante suggests a walking pace. This page starts at ♩ = 92 in 4/4. Around 76–108 BPM is one rough guide, but tempo references differ. Treat 92 as a starting point and follow any metronome marking in your score.

Set Meter to match the music: for a piece in 3/4, change it from the default 4/4 before you start. That keeps the accented click at the start of each three-beat bar.

If you are working in 6/8 with a dotted-quarter beat, use the 6/8 page and multiply the dotted-quarter marking by three to get its eighth-note Tempo. For example, dotted quarter = 92 becomes ♪ = 276. Choose “3+3, in two” to mark the larger beats. The number you enter depends on the beat unit, not just the word andante.
