Moderato means a moderate pace. This page starts at ♩ = 112 in 4/4. About 108–120 BPM is a rough practice guide, though published ranges vary. Use the tempo and beat unit marked in your score when they are specified.
Try a passage that alternates quarter notes and eighth notes. Set Clicks per beat to 2 with Swing at Straight, and listen for the eighths falling halfway between the numbered beats. Then return to one click per beat and play the passage again without the extra clicks.
Adjust Tempo to a speed where you can manage both rhythms without a pause at the change. If the marking says allegro moderato, it qualifies a faster character; it does not prescribe one exact BPM. Let the piece guide the final choice.
